How to Paint a Plasterboard Wall

Gyprock, or plasterboard , walls are pretty fairly simple to paint over once they have been installed. There are a few simple steps that one must follow in order to get the job done correctly the first time. But as long as you are willing to follow along you will get your walls painted with virtually no issues or problems at all.

Preparation is always the key to a job well done.

In order to get the job done right the first time and without many issues it is best to prepare ahead of time and make sure you have all the necessary pieces of equipment and materials to get everything completed. The items that you will need include the following materials:

• Paint brushes and rollers
• Bucket with water and soap
• Acrylic paint
• Acrylic Latex Caulking

When it comes to painting plasterboard you will want to stick with acrylic based paints. This type of paint will help you to avoid any moisture accumulating from the paint itself.

What you should know before getting started

The most important thing to know before you get started is to make sure the wall is thoroughly dried first after the flushing process. This shouldn’t take too long but if you don’t allow the wall sufficient time to dry properly the paint will seal the moisture in the plaster and may end up developing into mold growths
.
Now that it’s dry let’s get started

When you are sure the plasterboard  is dry brush off the wall to make sure any surface dirt is removed. You will then want to seal or prime it first. If you fail to do this necessary step and go straight to painting the plaster will suck up the moisture from the paint and can be left dry and flaky on the surface. You can actually create your own sealant with water based paint by simply diluting it with one part water to four parts actual paint.

Once this has dried you can start the painting process.  It’s important to remember to follow along with all the steps listed above and make sure you choose whatever color of paint that suits your needs and the look and feel of your home.
